The Different meanings of Fuck

PART 5 / 5

Welcome to Proofessor’s school of English slang. This podcast is part 5 of 5.

Please note this podcast is strictly for over 18’s only, so if you are not 18 or over please turn it off now.

In the previous parts we discussed many different phrases with the word fuck. None of these previous sentences had any sexual meanings. In this part we will focus on how the word fuck is used to make sexual meanings.

Firstly, if somebody says “let’s fuck”, it means let’s have sex.   Western people often talk about sex and you may be out drinking with a group of girls. Suddenly a man walks into the bar and one of the girls may say to her friend “I want to fuck him” which means I want to have sex with him.  In this case fuck is just used as the word for sex.  The same phrase applies for men or women.

In the present tense it becomes fucking. For example “I can’t sleep, because I can hear my neighbour fucking”. This means you can’t sleep because you can hear your neighbour having sex. Another example, maybe you saw two people having sex by accident and you tell your friend “I saw them fucking, I was so embarrassed”. Another example, of present tense. I once heard someone say “my hobby is fucking”. Which means his hobby is having sex.

You can also say this phrase in the past tense. For example” we fucked all night”. This means we had sex all night.   Another example, maybe a wife found out that her husband had an affair and she says to her friend “I want a divorce because he fucked another woman”. This means that the wife wants to divorce her husband because he had sex with another woman.

There is also a phrase that is often seen in movies and TV programs. “Go fuck yourself”. This is an insult and it literally means “go and have sex with yourself”.    People say this when they want someone to go away or when they are very annoyed at someone or if they feel very insulted. So it’s usually said when somebody is unreasonable. For example, if somebody keeps phoning you and swearing at you, you may say “go fuck yourself”. Another example, maybe someone is blaming you for something you haven’t done. Some people may get annoyed and say “go fuck yourself”. This means leave me alone and stop talking rubbish. One final example, you may say to your friend “My boss is so unfair; he is expecting me to work on the weekend and will not pay me extra money”. Your friend may reply “you should tell your boss to go fuck himself”.  If you say this you are literally telling the boss that you won’t work on the weekend because it is unreasonable. However, this is a very rude and offensive way to say that. If you said that to the boss you would probably be fired. You would lose your job.

Please remember that some of the slang we have covered in this podcast is very rude and should be used carefully. The main reason for me teaching you this topic is that many English and American people use these words instead of saying other words. I think it’s important that you know the meaning, so that you can understand movies and normal conversations.

I hope this helps you. If you found this useful or interesting please feel free to check out the previous parts which are on our website www.proofessor.co.uk. We also have this podcast in written form on our website in case you didn’t understand anything that I said.
