According to psychologist Carol Dweck, a person’s mindset can come in two flavours: fixed and growth. Someone with a fixed mindset believes we are what we are and can’t change – that applies to how they see themselves and other people. If they’re bad at something, there’s no point trying to change it. Someone with a growth mindset, however, believes that we are constantly evolving – how we are now is different to who we have been and will be different in the future. If they’re bad at something, working on it will improve their capability in that area. Socially, we’re drawn to people with a growth mindset, those who are comfortable with their vulnerability, over those who judge themselves against others.
